Transcription

Well-known North-West pioneer Harold Aubrey Hall died in Perth last week at the age of 91. Born at the home of his grandparents in Murray-street, Perth, he could remember going with his grandfather, George Lazenby, Perth's first Town Clerk, to see work in progress on the old Town Hall.

His father, William Shakespeare Hall, came to WA in 1830 as a child of five, so that all but one year of the State's existence has been spanned by the lives of father and son.

The late Mr Hall spent many years in the Roebourne district. His father was a pioneer of the pearling industry and the family lived at Cossack in the days when it was a thriving port. Mr Hall pioneered and was part-owner of Abydos Station before World War I.

He was one of the oldest justices of the peace in Western Australia, having held a State-wide warrant since Federation.
